New Side Door with super awesome amazing screen door…

So my husband and my brother in law just installed a new side door last week, and I wasn’t going to post about it until it was all done, but I love it and I want to share

Here is the new door. The inside door is going to be painted blue. I was going to paint the screen door, but I found out that you can’t because of its coating, bummer.

There are some additional shots on my flickr page

(Shout out to Dwayne who made it all possible)

Also, the screen door is super cool (if you haven’t guessed from the post title) it has a screen that retracts up into the door.

It is called Easy Vent. The door is from Larson, and we bought it from Lowe’s. Both doors and all the extra stuff (locks, foam, wood) cost us about $500 bucks, 153 for the entry door, 199 for the (super cool) screen door.

I love this screen door so much I made a video of it in action…

I may be lame, but this door is not.

Bathroom Renovation, Part 2

Posted by Kathleen under Home Renovation Projects

Oh the humanity! Ok, maybe it is a little dramatic to compare my bathroom renovation to the disaster of the Hindenburg. But just a little. The painting of the pepto pink has made it a bit better, and my handy husband hung some glass shelves I found at Target for 20 bucks each.

So there’s progress.

I am having trouble with choosing the floor. The one thing I liked (see earlier post) was WAY to expensive (it would be about 400 to do our tiny 27 sq ft) So I am going with a cheaper option from Lowe’s and mixing in a few of the expensive glass tiles. Picture more of the blue tiles throughout the beige….

This is what we are installing for our bathroom floor

The light tile is $2.68 a sq foot at Lowe’s, and the glass is about $20 a sq foot. I think I will need approximately 2 of the glass sheets to put into the light ones (thats 3 glass tiles in every sheet) Here is a close up of the glass…

This will cost about $125 to do, which is better for my husband and (my) mental health. What do you think?

Bathroom Renovation, Part 1

Ok, so I have a hideous pink and green bathroom (which you can peek at in my header) eek.

So I would like to start the remodel in earnest, and my plan is as follows-

  1. Paint away the pink. This will be changing to a blue/white
  2. Replace the fixtures in the tub and shower
  3. Tear out the toilet, sink/vanity.
  4. Tile the floor.
  5. Replace the toilet, sink/vanity with a toilet that don’t whistle like a tea kettle when flushed, and a sink/vanity that is not awful. Right now my sink is shaped like a shell, and my faucet has wooden handles. Boooo.
  6. Replace medicine cabinet
  7. Install a light over new medicine cabinet.
  8. Install fart fan. (yah, I said it.)

Somewhere in there we need a new window, but I am not sure when that is going to happen, so consider it a footnote the the official list.

So the paint has been done, check out the white/blue. (much better than pink!)

Bathroom Painted!

So now I have to figure out what I am going to do about flooring to match the mint green wall tile. I can’t bring myself to commit to ripping the walls out, so we are just going to make it work.

This is what I have, you can see my current floor, the walls, and the samples I received in the mail (really quick too!)

Tiles for my bathroom floor

This is what I think I want, it’s a glass tile, and I think a green would go best. (White would look best, but I can’t bring myself to do it, it’s so hard to keep it looking clean with the random cat hairs…)

These are the 2 I like best (the 2 on the left)

Spa Green Tile

I think I am going to go with the frosted green glass one.

Next step is measuring and ordering!
